Teaching Background and Philosophy

After finishing a BM in voice performance at the world renowned Indiana University School of Music, I was lucky enough to study voice pedagogy with Dr. Scott McCoy and Marvin Keenze while earning my degree at Westminster Choir College.   Upon completing my Masters degree, I studied privately in New York City with the late Shirlee Emmons, Master Teacher and author of such standard texts as The Art of the Song Recital and Power Performance for Singers.  My university education and post graduate private studies granted me deep respect for voice science and historical teaching methods.

When I first moved to Vancouver, I became certified as a yoga teacher and began developing a holistic teaching philosopy utilizing elements of my yoga teaching style and personal practice. My teaching philosophy now combines deep level body/ mind/spirit integration with respect for all who desire to learn more about themselves through studying voice.  As a teacher, I am gentle and supportive in fusing elements of established pedagogical wisdom and intuitive individual guidance.  I invite you to open to your own body's unique wisdom and character.

My journey continues to evolve as I explore energy healing and engage in further private pedagogy study.  I remain active in the Vancouver NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) chapter, reading the Journal of Singing, attending meetings, entering students in the festival and taking every opportunity to speak with other voice teachers about their own private practices. Over the past few years, I have also begun offering pedagogy workshops for choirs and choral directors.  I am constantly looking for new ways to empower people by making information more engaging.  To this end, I build my own models and develop my own teaching materials.
